FAQs

For automated bread and roll production lines, a continuous drive concept tailored to each process step is recommended. Food-compliant PU timing belts, stainless steel timing pulleys, hygienic geared motors, backlash-free couplings and application-specific industrial freewheels provide a suitable basis. The design should account for positioning accuracy, synchronous operation, start-stop cycles, cleaning resistance, flour dust, moisture and temperature fluctuations. Because operating conditions differ between dough feeding, calibrating, portioning, proofing, depositing and baking, each section of the line should be designed separately.
Timing belt selection should be based on the process step, mechanical load and hygiene conditions. PU timing belts with documented food compliance are recommended for conveying tasks in food-related areas. Depending on the application, PU belts with Supergrip or white PVC coatings are suitable for dough-sheet forming. HTD, GT3 or GTX timing belts support precise calibrating and positioning tasks. Double-sided TwinPower timing belts are recommended for counter-rotating rollers. A HYBRID timing belt should be considered where wear risk or mechanical load is high.
Food compliance means that the materials used meet the legal requirements relevant to their intended application. The documented polyurethane LL timing belts are specified as food-compliant under Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. Conveyor timing belts can also be fitted with compliant coatings, including white PVC, nubbed or Supergrip surfaces. Before use, the installation, type of product contact, cleaning agents and operating conditions should be checked. The product documentation for the selected belt version is decisive.
The timing belt coating should match the required friction, dough consistency and cleaning conditions. Depending on the task, white Supergrip or white FDA-PVC coatings are recommended for dough-sheet forming. Food-compliant PVC, nubbed and Supergrip surfaces are also available. Selection should account for the required grip, belt speed, pulley diameters and the cleaning process used.
A drive solution for dough feeding should provide accurate dosing, resist flour dust and support easy cleaning. Suitable components include TPU timing belts with a food-compliant coating, stainless steel timing pulleys and worm or helical bevel geared motors.
Low-elongation timing belts, precision timing pulleys and backlash-free couplings are recommended for synchronous calibrating rollers. HTD, GT3 or GTX timing belts support accurate positioning and low reversing backlash. Double-sided TwinPower timing belts are suitable for counter-rotating rollers. Constant belt tension, low runout and precise speed control should also be ensured.
GT3 or GTX timing belts and food-compliant PU timing belts are recommended for cutting and portioning dough. Stainless steel timing pulleys, servo gearboxes, worm gearboxes with reduced angular backlash and backlash-free servo couplings support exact timing and repeatable positioning. Metal bellows couplings are also suitable for precise motion transmission. An overrunning clutch can perform an application-specific function in cyclic cutting systems.
Depending on the load, HTD 8M, GTX 8M or HYBRID timing belts are recommended for moulding and rounding dough pieces. They support precise synchronization under higher torque and shock loads. Stainless steel or coated steel timing pulleys, helical bevel or shaft-mounted gearboxes and flexible or jaw couplings complete the drive train. Indexing freewheels are suitable for feed systems with overrunning motion.
Corrosion- and moisture-resistant drive technology is recommended for proofing cabinets. Suitable components include food-compliant, moisture-resistant PU timing belts, stainless steel timing pulleys, stainless steel geared motors or IP66 geared motors, and stainless steel or elastomer couplings. Backstops should be fitted to lifting equipment. Selection must be matched to the actual temperature, high humidity, condensation and cleaning process.
Open-length linear timing belts or food-compliant PU timing belts are recommended for precise and gentle depositing of dough pieces. Stainless steel timing pulleys, servo gearboxes and positioning drives support fast cycles and high repeatability. Backlash-free metal bellows couplings provide precise motion transmission with low vibration. Application-specific industrial freewheels can be used in indexing and cycling devices.
Timing belts can be used outside the directly heated baking chamber if the actual temperature remains within the permissible limits of the selected belt. HTD or GT timing belts are suitable for this area. Suitable chain or special conveyor technology is recommended inside the hot zone. Temperature-resistant steel pulleys, spur or helical bevel gearboxes, temperature-resistant couplings and backstops on oven conveyors should also be considered. The actual temperature distribution and installation are decisive.
G.H.A. geared motors are recommended for bakery machinery and other demanding food-industry applications. The patented G.H.A. coating combines corrosion protection, wear resistance and hygienic properties. The surface is antibacterial and grease-repellent, and resists moisture, chemicals and wash-down cleaning. Compared with stainless steel gearboxes, the aluminium version has a lower weight. Worm and helical bevel gearboxes are available; FDA H1/UH1 lubricants and FDA-type shaft seals are available on request.
The MHA Premium motor is recommended for bakery machinery where a smooth, cleaning-optimized outer housing, corrosion resistance and a high degree of protection are required. It features IP69K protection, IE4 efficiency and a G.H.A.-treated aluminium housing. The fanless design reduces external geometries where contamination can accumulate and is therefore suitable for areas exposed to flour dust. The installation, cleaning agents and operating requirements should be checked before selection.
Depending on the application, industrial freewheels act as backstops, overrunning clutches or indexing freewheels in bakery machinery. Backstops prevent dosing screws, conveyor belts, lifting equipment or oven conveyors from running backwards. Overrunning clutches are suitable for certain cyclic cutting systems. Indexing freewheels support feed systems with overrunning motion. Because not every section requires a freewheel, selection should be based on the required function.
